Gottfried Stoger, saxophonist and woodwinds specialist, composer, educator.
Instruments: all saxophones, flute and piccolo flute, clarinet and bass clarinet.

Gottfried began his musical training in Salzburg, Austria, where he studied the
violin as a child, following traditional training in western music. As an adolescent,
he was inspired by improvisation and later made his way to New York City to
explore the world of Jazz. He continued his studies in jazz programs at the
Manhattan School of Music in New York and the University of Miami, where he
earned Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in jazz performance.
From 1998 until 2004 Gottfried directed the “International Jazz Seminar” in
Salzburg, Austria. This festival and workshop for improvised music featured highly
acclaimed performers from the United States and Europe, and was attended by
students from all over the world.

His world travels as a musician lead to creative collaborations with major world
music artists from India, Brazil, Indonesia and Eastern Europe, such as Pawan
Kumar, Toninho Horta, Jalu Pratitina, Romero Lubambo and Theodosii Spasov.
Gottfried’s artistry is shaped by the melding of these experiences with his
traditional Austrian upbringing: European Classical Music, American Jazz and
Austrian Folk Music. These various styles come together to create Gottfried’s
unique style as a soloist and composer.

Gottfried performed and recorded with famous jazz artists such as Kenny Barron,
Kenny Werner, Marc Copland, Joe Zawinul, Joe Henderson, Toots Thielemans,
David Liebman, Maria Schneider, Gerry Mulligan, Billy Hart, Gene Jackson, Will
Lee, Lauren Newton, Rodney Holmes, and many more.

Gottfried played multiple wood wind chairs in the following Broadway Shows,
“Cats”, “Les Miserables”, “42 nd Street”, “A Chorus Line”, “Beauty and the Beast”,
and most recently in “The Rivals”.
